Will I Qualify?

DFGs are subject to a means test unless the work is for a child with disabilities.

If you are receiving one of the following benefits then you will usually automatically qualify for a DFG:

  • Income Support
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Related Employment Support Allowance
  • Income based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Pension Credit Guarantee
  • Working Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit (household income must be below £15,050 to qualify)
  • Universal Credits

If you are not receiving any of the above benefits you will need to provide full details of any income, savings or capital that you and your partner receive (if relevant) so that a means test can be completed to assess your eligibility.

By completing a Preliminary Test of Resources (means test) form we can give you an early indication of whether you are likely to qualify for a DFG.

The maximum mandatory grant for disabled adaptations you can apply for is £30,000. Where the costs are likely to exceed this amount then we may be able to apply for further funding either from your local authority, the county council or charities.

If you do not qualify for a grant, we may still be able to help you complete the adaptations by working with you as a private client and where possible seek funding from alternative sources. If you or your spouse/partner has previously served in the armed forces then we may be able to secure funding through an organisation such as the Royal British Legion or SSAFA.
